About SJ, your experienced freelance website developer.

I’m a freelance WordPress developer, a digital consultant and sustainability enthusiast, working with businesses across the continent from my home base near Norwich, UK.

With 15+ years’ experience, I’ve been strategising, building, supporting, and optimising websites that actually deliver results. Previously, I worked as a Senior WordPress Developer at one of London’s leading sustainable WordPress agencies. During that time, I led projects for globally recognised brands. Furthermore, I championed digital sustainability and accessibility for all. Today, I continue this work independently as a freelance developer, providing ongoing support and consultancy.

A small sample of what I have worked on as an independent freelance WordPress developer…

  • Developed bespoke WordPress solutions with ongoing support, helping businesses and agencies streamline their processes and cut costs.
  • Worked alongside SEO agencies to audit and implement technical SEO strategies, boosting organic traffic and increasing sales.
  • Provided independent technical consultancy to a Royal College in London for their migration to a WordPress solution, helping them cut costs.
  • Strategised and built a WordPress-based Intranet for a leading UK media organisation with over 5,000 users.

Supporting WordPress Community & Sustainability in Norwich, UK, and Europe.

Each month I can be found at the local WordPress Norwich Meetup where I love discussing both the current and future of WordPress with people of different backgrounds and skillsets. I can also be found in the Norwich WP Group on Slack that I run, where I often support people with different technical issues and discuss development.

I actively contributed to the WordPress Sustainability Team until its full integration with the project. I’ll also volunteer at WordCamp Europe in 2025.

Outside of work, the chances are I’m exploring or learning about Nordic culture.

Exploring is what I enjoy most, always preferring to get away from crowded tourist spots and spend time outdoors. Although Las Vegas has its appeal, I’d much rather be in Iceland, standing by the Skógafoss waterfall. Nature helps me switch off and recharge after long hours in the fast-paced world of web development.

Currently I’m learning about Nordic culture and listening to my favourite band Sigur Rós.
